This institute, housed at the University of Colorado Boulder, will lead the development of the new science of student-AI teaming. The aim is to develop human-AI collaboration models and frameworks for creating the next-generation collaborative learning environments composed of diverse student-AI teams. The institute will contribute to the development of theories, AI technology and the application of student-AI teaming technologies in middle and high schools.

Working with the research teams in the institute, Puntambekar’s research group will focus on understanding how AI can support classroom orchestration so that students, teachers, and AI agents work synergistically for effective teaching and learning in classrooms. The interaction paradigms and frameworks will pave the way to support teachers and students in diverse classrooms. Field-tested exemplars of the interaction and orchestration paradigms, along with data sets and design guidelines, will be developed.
